Teen Advice

Wearyparent.com wants to know what advice you received as a teenager that you took to heart.

Growing up, my mother had always been a source of inspiration for me. She was, and still is, one of my closest friends (she was my matron of honor when I got married) and someone I always went to for advice.

She always told me to follow my own path in life and do what made me happy. That nothing was out of reach. She never criticized my choices and always supported my ideas. Even when they were ones that she thought were not good for me, she gave her opinion and then allowed me the space to see if it was right for me. Because of that, I grew up trusting and believing in myself and my choices. What a gift she gave me. :-)

I’m very aware that I want to raise my children the same way, especially my daughters. I want to help them be as confident in themselves as my mother helped me to become.

Thanks mommy!

Regarding the refrigerator, my dad had this to say:

“Put the short things on the short shelf and the tall things on the tall shelf.”

My sisters and I still tease him about this kernel of wisdom.

Seriously, Dad says so many wise and wonderful things (as does mom) that we put together a whole book of his Dad-isms one year.

    One of the gems:

“Treat others when you don’t need them the way you wish you’d treated them when you DO need them.”

I love my parents (**flying hearts**)

That’s cute about your dad! :-)
I got all my “normal” advice from my mother. The one thing my father used to tell me was not to wear the color red because people would think I was a butana (Italian for whore or prostitute). Yup-that was my dad! LOL

What a sweet, sweet post for all of us, but especially your mother, to read.
