Adoption Squidoo Lens

I’ve just created a brand new squidoo lens on adoption. :-) It’s not completed yet and I’ll be working on it this week.
I already have an established lens on unschooling that is steadily climbing the ranks.

What’s a squidoo lens you ask?

They’re single webpages designed to be a starting point for someone who is interested in a particular topic.

How can this help you promote your blog, site or business?

If you have an adoption blog, website, forum or business, that’s of interest to people who’ve adopted (or want to adopt), stop by and share your link. I’ve set up the lens to be interactive. If you don’t have a link to share, please say hello in the guestbook so we know you visited! Either way, please take a second to vote for our lens at the top of the page.

I’m participating in a group project over at eMomsAtHome and I signed up to post about creating a squidoo lens. Here are my ten tips for anyone who wants to create one.

1. Squidoo was started by Seth Godin and he has a free e-book titled Everyone is an Expert that tells what Squidoo is about and what you can do with a lens.

2. Visit their forums Squid U to ask questions and read what other people are doing with their lens. Lots of great tips there!

3. Visit their blog for more great ideas on promoting your lens.

4. Choose a topic that you like and are passionate about. Make it personal. Use the text module and write why that topic is important to you. Introduce yourself and don’t forget to add a picture. Just throwing up a bunch of links will get you nowhere fast.

5. Use tags. Right now there is no minimum on the amount of tags you can use but that may change in the future. When using multiple word tags, try without and with spaces.

6. Make it interactive. Squidoo offers a lot of fun features such as polls, links and guestbooks. Use some or all.

7. Use photos to break up the text. (I need to do this) Also, break up a long text module into several smaller ones.

8. Comment on other lens and add them to your lensroll. Just like blogs. :-)

9. Check out other lens and take a look at their layout and how they use their modules.

10. Type in “squidoo” in their “find a lens on…” search box for many great lens. There’s a ton of good information there.

Okay I have one more - join some of the squidoo groups that relate to your lens for more exposure. Or start your own!

There’s my ten (I mean eleven!) tips. :-) Don’t forget to visit my lens and sign up for the feed. Spead the word on your adoption blog if you like. :-)

Also, if you have a squidoo lens (doesn’t need to be adoption related), post it in a comment here and I’ll add you to my lensroll. :-)

  1. Holly Schwendiman, May 25, 2007:

My husband has worked with Seth on a few projects, including some work for Squidoo when it was launching. He got to meet him in person today and said it was so much fun when he asked him his name for a book and he said Blake, Schwendiman. Seth looked up and said THE Blake Schwendiman? I told him what a compliment that Seth knows who he is even though they’ve only ever corresponded online or on the phone. Squidoo is most cool. Way to go on creating the new lens.

    Hugs,
    Holly

    p.s. - sorry I’m monopolyzing your comments tonight…LOL

Hey-that’s cool about Seth. From what I know of him online, he seems like a very down to earth type of person. :-)
