Heart Gallery Puts A Face On Children Needing Adoption

It’s called the Heart Gallery, and it features the faces of adoption. But this year, the focus is moving a new direction.
“Our focus, really, is a lot on older children right now,” said Chris Van Deusen with Child Protective Services. “It’s much more difficult for older children to get adopted.”
And now the Heart Gallery is moving for the first time inside the State Capitol. Professional photographers volunteer their time to produce these portraits.
Workers with CPS tell KXAN that these kids have overcome terrible struggles, even neglectful conditions.
“They are ready to be adopted,” Van Deusen said. “Parental rights have been terminated. They’ve come to foster care because of abuse or neglect. The parents
have not been able to provide a safe home for them.”
More than 4,100 children across Texas are still looking for a home.
