FRUA ConferenceQuestions: Visit www.frua.org, e-mail Marjorie@frua.org or call 703-560-6184 This conference is for all of us that are touched by adoption. Although it is sponsored by FRUA, INC, the issues addressed are just as appropriate for families with children adopted from backgrounds of alcohol or drug exposure, neglect or abuse as they are for children adopted from institutional settings. This conference was designed by adoptive families. Our goal was to try and pull together much of the confusing information into one setting where we could hopefully make sense out of it all, to address as many of the treatments and factors contributing to the education of our kids as we could. Children who spent the first years of their lives in orphanages and other institutions, or suffered neglect and abuse, face real educational challenges that last well into adulthood. It is important for parents and adoption professionals that deal with our children to have a true understanding of the reasons behind the behaviors and disabilities, and some practical approaches to dealing with them. Attached is a registration form and agenda for the comprehensive FRUA, INC conference on future of education and development for international adoptees in Redmond, Washington state, in April. Please pass on the registration information attached to EVERYONE. Registration is by mail or through Pay Pal online at http://frua.org/conference/2007/onlineReg.html Please tell everyone you know to attend this conference if they can! It promises to be one-of-a-kind… with some real, practical, hands-on information! Forward this note to educators and teachers, adoptive families, medical professionals, adoption agencies, social workers, counselors and therapists. An opportunity for educators, parents, adoption professionals, medical practitioners, and therapists to interact and examine indepth the educational and developmental issues facing adoptees. April 27-28, 2007 Sponsored by Families for Russian and Ukrainian Adoption, Including Neighboring Countries CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS OBJECTIVES: Since 1990, growing numbers of parents have turned to international adoption to create families. The experiences of these children and their families have yielded an expanding body of research and new insights into the challenges they face, as well as innovative treatment approaches. FRUA, INC regularly brings together parents, researchers, educators, and other professionals at conferences to focus on the developmental, educational, social, physical, and other challenges and treatment * General sessions will address key topic areas, while smaller workshops will allow for in-depth discussion. Each session will provide ample opportunity for questions from the audience.
